The Baconian cipher represents each letter with five A/B symbols. This tool gives all 26 letters their own group: number A as 0 through Z as 25, write the number in five binary places, then replace 0 with A and 1 with B. It uses the 26-letter version, rather than the older 24-letter alphabet.
Read five symbols at a time
| Letter | Index | Binary | A/B group |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 0 | 00000 | AAAAA |
| B | 1 | 00001 | AAAAB |
| H | 7 | 00111 | AABBB |
| Z | 25 | 11001 | BBAAB |
Three separate letter groups
CAT26-letter alphabet; A = 0; five bits; A = 0, B = 1AAABA AAAAA BAABBIn CAT, C has index 2 and becomes AAABA; A becomes AAAAA; T has index 19 and becomes BAABB. Keep a space between each group of five so the next person can tell where one letter ends and another begins.
How to decode an A/B group
Five binary places can hold values from 0 to 31, but this alphabet uses only 0 to 25. That makes BBBBB, or 31, invalid. If the tool flags a group, check that it has exactly five A/B symbols and appears in the 26-letter chart.
