Use plain text when you want to paste a clue into another document. Choose JSON when you also need the settings and original input. For a page of practice questions, create a worksheet PDF with optional separate answers. Each download starts when you choose its button.

Copy resultThe displayed output textPasting a clue into your own layout
Download TXTThe displayed output in a .txt fileA simple local copy

A Caesar result to copy or download

InputHELLO, WORLD!
SettingsCaesar; Encode; shift 3; preserve nonletters
Expected resultKHOOR, ZRUOG!
Try this method

For this example, the TXT file contains KHOOR, ZRUOG!. Its filename identifies the method and direction, but the file does not include the shift or variant. Keep those in your notes if someone else needs to reproduce the result.

Inspect the JSON record

FieldWhat to check
algorithmIdThe named method, such as caesar
variantIdThe exact algorithm convention
modeencode or decode
parametersThe submitted key, shift, rails, columns, or Affine values
normalizedKeyThe effective normalized key
input.originalWhat was entered
input.normalized and input.preparedWhat the rules changed and what the algorithm consumed
outputThe actual result
warnings and lossyReasonsChanges that affect interpretation or reversibility

A JSON export includes the entered message and key, not just the final ciphertext. Read those fields before sharing a file, and replace personal text with a sample when reporting a problem. A file processed locally can still reveal its contents to anyone you send it to.

Make a worksheet you can recreate

  1. Open one of the eight worksheet types.
  2. Choose a seed and 1 to 20 questions.
  3. Select Make this set and look through the questions.
  4. Save the seed, worksheet type, question count, and generator version in your notes.
  5. Choose A4 or Letter, then decide whether to include the separate answer sheet.

A worksheet starts with six questions by default. The same seed, type, count, and generator version produce the same set. New seed changes the questions, so keep the matching answer key whenever you hand out a set.

Keep learner and answer pages separate

Download PDF creates the worksheet file. Include answers to put the key on separate pages, or turn the option off to leave it out. Preview answers only changes what you can see on screen; it does not decide whether answers are in the PDF. Check the downloaded file before making copies.

Print worksheet opens your browser’s print dialog. The page hides navigation and advertising for printing. Confirm the paper size and page breaks, and check that every grid label fits. Longer sets can span several pages, with included answers starting on a new page.

When copying or downloading is unavailable

If automatic copying is blocked, the result remains selected so you can use the browser’s Copy command. If a download fails, keep the page open, read the error, and try again. Check the browser’s downloads list to confirm that the file was saved.
